Alphabet Soup-Development

After our crit on Friday I started to look at my typeface in lower case and how that would work. These are some of the outcomes I got. More to come...!

Stop-Group Work

In this visual language sessions we were given words which we had to respond to, I was given burst and expand, I had to use my letter A to show burst and expand. We were then given words as a group and had to work together to show represent these with our letter form, our group was given the word stop, how we executed this can be seen above.

Alphabet Soup-Further Design Sheets

I have started looking at extending the letter forms in different ways, stretching the serifs or the letters themseleves. I did this because some of adjectives for Luke were tall and big so extending the letterforms refelected him.

Alphabet Soup-Design Sheets

Here are some of my initial ideas for my type face, the first sheet is looking at typefaces and styles that Luke said he liked, I then went on to start changing and minipulating typefaces to reflect his character and personality.

Alphabet Soup-Typeface

Our brief is to design a typeface for a full alphabet that represents our partners character and personality. We started by filling in a questionnaire about our partners, my partner is Luke O'Brien. We then had to pick 5 adjectives to describe our partner, for Luke I chose bold, friendly, tall, interesting, loud/talkative. I used these adjectives as well as the questionnaire to start creating my typeface for Luke.

Alphabet Soup-Glow

At my crit one of the improvement that was suggested to me was instead of doing 2 different letter forms on 5 different papers I should pick one letter form and do it on 10 different papers. So this is what I did. I definitely think that some work a lot better than others and that some of the papers that are different so end up looking very similar when they are put on the light. I do think it is interesting to see how light travels through different densities and colours of paper and also how it changed the form and legibility of the same letter form.

Alphabet Soup-Glow, further development

After my crit I started to develop my work further, as an experiment I looked at how far I could blur the light but still make the letters legible. It worked with some of the papers I used but with a lot of them when I unfocused the camera the letter could no longer be seen, I do however like some of the outcomes of this process.
