Alphabet Soup. Part One

For our 'Alphabet Soup' brief we had to pick a word out of the randomiser and use that to prouduce ten letter forms that communicate our understanding of that word, I picked out glow. I started by exploring letter forms and deciding which letters to use in connection with my word.

How to...Work in Context

How to...Final Images

We used the idea of student food the 'Come Dine with Me' idea and produced fridge magnets with recipes on that can be put in student kitchens. The aim is that each day of the week one flatmate would cook for everyone else, these recipes will help and give inspiration when cooking meals.

Along with our fridge magnets we also designed two posters that promote our concept and introduce students to 'Meet, Greet and Eat'.

How to...Devleopment

We discussed our problem in our group and went away and all started working out possible outcomes. Dom in my group came up with a good catch line, 'Meet, Greet and Eat', so I started working around that idea, using food associated with students and looking at ways to present our posters. Here a few of my inital sketches.

How to...

We started our 'How to..' briefs in our groups by making lists of problems that have faced us in our first week of living as a student in Leeds.

After we made our list we then narrowed it down to 5 problems that we found the most annoying. Then everyones suggestions got put together and each group picked one out at random, our group got the problem of Making Friends.

We then started to brainstorm our problem of trying to make friends, we looked at the things you should do as well as the things you should avoid doing when getting to know people.
Firstly the porblem we wanted to solve was making friends that will last, but after discussing it further we decided the problem we were going to solve was 'How to get engage with your flatmates'.

We then chose our 3 best solutions to our problem of trying to get engage with your flatmates, our first idea was making stickers and posters that people could put around their flats with slogans about how you can get on with your flat and ways to act around each other. Our second idea was when each person moved into their flat they could be given a token or coupon type thing which would join together with their other flat mates to get you all money off nights out, or free drinks etc. I final idea, which was the one that the other groups picked was a to take it in turns to cook for each other, in the style of 'Come Dine with Me' and we dicussed that a poster would be a good way to present our 'How to...'.
