Evalution

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively
 do you think you have applied them?
I think my drawing skills have improved during this module, I hadn’t been doing a lot of drawing recently and this module got me back into it and helped improve my skills.

I also think my screen-printing skills have improved, I enjoy screen printing and always like the opportunity to use it in my work and get better at it. In this module I used it in my book works project as well as the type brief.

I also think my digital skills have improved as I completed some of the briefs on Illustrator and also used my graphics tab which I am just starting to get used to using.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I think my idea of image and how I approach it has developed during this module. I know think about the context my image will be in, not just seeing it as a picture in itself but how it works with its context and how it effects it. I have learnt that no piece of work stands alone, it is always in context.

I also think my approach to working has steered more towards collaboration after doing the book works project with Sadie. I enjoy working in collaboration and I think it helps ideas to develop and improves the final outcome. I think doing collaboration in something I enjoy with a like-minded person really helped in forwarding my development.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I think my strengths are in the type as image and book work briefs during these modules, they are the briefs I enjoyed working on the most. I also like that I worked with screen print in these two briefs, it is a skill I feel I have developed before and throughout this module and is a medium I think I will continue to work in and push forward.

I also think my strengths lie in collaboration, I find working with another helps ideas to flow and a high standard of work can be produced if you have 2 sets of hands and creative minds working on it.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

I think I found doing the briefs in a week a bit of struggle, deciding on a final outcome sometimes proved hard and this probably impacted on some of my outcomes for the briefs. I think I need to push my ideas forward quicker and not spend too much time thinking about them. Also deciding on outcomes that are achievable in the time scale given.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1.Not leave it too long before I start my final outcomes so I have more time to let them develop change them.
2.Try out as many different processes and types of media within my work to find the best solution for my outcomes.
3.Document all my work as I do it so I don't have to go back and do it at a later date.

Here are the images from the final printed version of my 
Geometry book.

These are the prints for the front and back covers for my geometry book, 
I am happy with how they have turned out. The blue trace works well
 over the white background and it all lined up how I wanted.

This is the layout for my book on InDesign, each page will fold down to A5 and be 
bond in the center.

Book Design

These are the first few designs for my book that I have started to work on, I am looking at 
how different shapes can be drawn and the diagrams used to show this. I have decided to focus on the shapes from 3 sided all the way up to 12 sided.
These are some initial designs from the first two shapes.

Front Cover

For the front cover of my geometry book, I have looked at patterns that commonly occur when creating shapes within geometry.
The Flower of Spirt, Flower of Elements, Flower of Life, Flower of Creation and Flower of Intelligence.
I have recreated three of these for the cover of my book, seen below, over this is going to be a turquoise tracing paper with the title of the book.

Layering Spirographs

I took my screen printed spirographs and scanned them into Illustrator and played with the
colours and orientation to create more complex versions of the spirographs.
I am not that happy with the outcome of these but I am not going to develop
my idea further and hand draw some patterns and shapes and look at how they are formed
and measured.

 I have done some simple, one layer spirographs that I am going to expose onto a screen to layer up when I screen print them.
I am going to try different colours and shape combinations to see if I can get more effective spirographs then when using the actual spirograph itself.

I tested out some spirographs today, its a lot harder than it looks/I remember. But I like the idea
of the layering and build up of shape and colour.

Image...Erik Kessels D&AD Brief Resolutions

 These are the final resolutions in response to the Erik Kesselss brief, I have tried a few

different layouts and designs but I think I am going to submit the one on the top left

with the writing in the top left corner and the three droplets. The three droplets give the

poster more of a sense of dimension.

For the Erik Hessels brief for D&AD we have been asked to focus on rain, I am putting a 
quote on my poster and this is the beginnings of the image that will go along side it. I am working with the basic shape of a rain drop and making a pattern from it, making rain seem attractive which is what the brief is asking us to do. 

Spirograph

Sophie was kind enough to bring in her spirograph for me to play with, 
it is definitely harder than it looks!

I am going to take my spirograph images and screen print them, this way I can layer them and it will probably turn out better than if I used the actual spirograph.
