Communication is a Virus-Final Presentation

This is our final powerpoint presentation that we had put together when presenting out work to the rest of the group in our final crit. This was the first time some people in our class had heard what we had done. I think the presentation went well and Niall even gave them a little performance as Oliver Histon.
I feel that overall we had a strong concept and did manage to "Tell a lie convincingly" as Niall did a excellent job of fooling the 2nd years. As we did not manage to get video footage of Nialls presentation we had to rely on filming the reactions of the 2nd years after they had found out what had just happened. Here is the video of that-

As a group I think we worked well and really enjoyed the project as it was different to what we normally do, we had fun with this brief which I think is really important, if your not enjoying your work you loose interest in it.

Communication is a Virus-Nialls Script

Niall put together this script which he will be working from in the presentation to the second years. We all decided to head to the sound booth too see how it worked with his accent.
Hello I’m Ollie…

And I’m here today to give you a brief talk about my work and my graphic design world…

I’m a little nervous so bare with me,

Right, a little about me, I’ve already said I’m Ollie, I went to the University of Brighton and I graduated 4 years ago and I have worked free lance ever since leaving.

When I first left university I did a few internships one for (insert GD firm) & (insert GD firm), I can only tell you that internships and placements are an amazing opportunity, even if its just making tea and coffee, just being in and around the environment of a design studio brilliant forum for you to express your ideas and absorb other peoples.

Once my internships finished, I unfortunately was not taken on and given a job.
But I made a few good friends at the companies and someone put my name forward as an up and coming designer to a German company Befreien Sie Entwurf, that roughly translates at free design, so in the summer of 2007 I packed my bags for 4months to the small German town of Fellbach about 25min drive from Stuttgart, where the studio was, and these are just a few pieces of work we did over there for a German music festival.

When I came back I suffered a bit of culture shock after living the German way of life for the past four months, I was approached by Nike UK to come with some posters for once of there campaigns.

So I went from working for a small firm in Germany in a studio with balding German men to working freelance for the UK arm of one of the biggest corporations in the world. This was a big eye opener to me showing how versatile a graphic designer needs to be. Especially if your working freelance because you have to adapt yourself from client to client and some clients are very stubborn and give you little room for manoeuvre.

But anyway this is the work I produced while at Nike. This experience was a great springboard for me opening a few doors and getting me a load more clients..

Communication is a Virus-Plan of Action!

The final plan of action is that we try and fool the 2nd years,  Amber will be teaching a group of 2nd years on Thursday afternoon, in which Niall will be sitting in, giving the second years general advice and also giving a 15-20 minute talk. Hopefully none of them will really question whether it looks like Niall but it is down to Niall proving himself with his acting skills. Hopefully because the 2nd years don't see Niall as much as our year do they won't recognise him.

The website is now complete and Niall could look at showing this to the 2nd years whilst talking about his work. His final outfit and disguise has also been finalised so quite excited to see how Niall looks on Thursday. Will also have to convince the rest of the group that Niall is ill and that is why he hasn't come into college.

The main point behind the project is to understand how aware people actually are and whether they take note of their surroundings and the people that they're spending time with. It will be interesting to see how observant the 2nd years really are.

Business Card Ideas

Once we had decided on the identity of Oliver Histon being the letters OH I started designing some layouts for business cards, I experimented with colour, I feel that brighter colours work better especially with the word OH, being slighty in your face and shocking.

Communication is a Virus-Website Design

Basic ideas for website layout design.

We created a website for our character Oliver Histon using http://www.wix.com, we used the logo we designed and put up work that we claimed that 'Oliver Histon' had designed but which we really 'borrowed' from an already existing designer.

Met through a client whilst working down south. His girlfriend is also an
artist however she works with textiles. He has a cat called Paul.
He uses aquafresh toothpaste.
His favourite food is sweet potato and broccoli.
He plays bass guitar, been playing for around 4 years.
His favourite band is Radiohead, favourite song is paranoid android, because
of the bass solo.

This is the character profile we have created for Niall, we thought if we created a character in detail it would help Oliver Histon to be more believable as an actual person.
