Stock for Precious Business Cards

For the fronts of the Precious business cards I am ordering this candy pink
stock from Paperchase, its 175gsm and I am going to foil the logo onto
the front.
I am also going to do the text on the back on white mount board
so they will be put together to produce the business card.

Precious Logo

The guys at Precious wanted to keep their logo pretty much the same,
however I thought I would play around with some typefaces and imagery with 
the logo to see if they preferred any.

I personally like the logo with the gem added onto it, but have sent them
through to Precious and asked them to decided on one they liked the best
and that is the logo I will take forward onto the designs.

Printing onto Transfer Paper

I went down to James in digital print to trail my transfer paper, I took some
of the designs I was working on to see how they would turn out.
Some of the colours printed better than others, the pink and red colour printed
a bit patching but the blue and yellow came out fine.
I definitely like the designs where the pattern is coloured not the background
so those are the designs I am going to carry forward over the whole range.

Design for Print Workshop 1

-These sessions are going to focus on InDesign as it is the programme
that brings everything together when designing for print.

- Bleed is something you will need to talk to printers about when sending work to 
commercial print as they will all require different amounts of bleed.

-Primary text frame will put a text box on each page of your document, the size
of the the text fram is decided by the margin size, it also links all the text frames
together on each of the pages.

-To print slug area you need to check it on the marks and bleeds section of the
print dialogue box.

 -Short cut to change the leading is cmd+alt and the up and down arrows,

-Photoshop Images

300 dpi

CMYK or Greyscale

TIFF or PSD not JPEG

-Illustrator
CMYK
.AI file or copy and paste

- ALT and double clicking the image it takes you back to the original
image in Photoshop.
Re-size your image in Photoshop and make sure it has the correct DPI.

-When sending your InDesign file to print or moving it package it so it keeps 
all the files together.

Printed Patterns Colour Test

                          

Before I try printing on the transfer paper I have tested out my pattern
colour scheme on normal stock. I have put the rulers over them to see
what works best and which you can still see the numbers on best.
I think the colours on the patterns work better than the colours on the
background.
I am going to go ahead and print them off on the transfer paper tomorrow and
try and mock some up for the crit on Thursday.

Day of the Dead

This is my poster up at Neon Cactus at their Day of the Dead night,
having the brighter colours worked well as they have UV lights so the
they showed up under that.

Pattern Colour Variations

Something I got feedback on from the crit was the colours I was using in 
my designs.
I had only just started to apply colour so before I go to print I am trying 
out different colour combinations with different patterns on the different
stationary items.

With these designs I have looked at background colour for the rulers,
leaving the patterns black and white. I have tried it with a range of
patterns that work with the ruler dimensions.

Another variation I have looked at is changing the colour of the pattern
itself, I have used the same colour palate in all the designs just changing
the combinations and where the colours are used.
I am going to print these to see which ones work best in print and with 
the ruler.
