Patterns

I took my hand drawn patterns and started putting them into illustrator, I am experimenting with colour, I am not sure what works best, black and white or colour, also if I use colour I need to sort out a colour scheme that works across all the patterns and shapes, I am going to do futher experimentation to see what will work best for my final outcome.

Manipulating Magazines

We were all given an adjective out of the randomiser and had to manipulate our magazine in response to this word, my word was EXTREME. I just started cutting up each page to make it come as far out from the magazine as possible, however it did make the magazine hard to open and close and move.

Jumper Web

I took all the different ways of catergorising jumpers and placed them in a circle on the wall. I then went through all the jumpers I had and linked them up with wool to the catergeories they fit under. For example they all start at 'Festive Jumper' then it would go to a colour say 'Green' then to the motif on it 'Santa'. Just another way of categorising my research.

We used to be Books

Today in visual language we started to look at how we can manimpulate already exsiting books to make something new (photos coming soon), here is some quick experimentation I did in response to that session. I want to make a book for the collection 100 project so I am exploring as many different possible outcomes as possible, I'll be doing some more paper folding fun soon so more to come!

Today I learnt now to make a 32 page book from 1 sheet of paper

 Take a sheet of paper and fold it in half

 in half again

 and again

 and again.

 Make sure the closed sides are at the top

 and the mainly open sides at the bottom.

 Start to number the pages,

 some pages will not have an opening at the bottom,

 these still need to be numbered.

 Some pages will be completely closed but they still need numbers,

 with a scaple make a small cut so that the page can be numbered inside.

 Then 2 sides of the booked need to be trimed, not the folded side though that is the hinge of the book.

 When this is donw you should have a fulling opening book, numbered correctly in order

All together there should be 32 pages in your book and it is ready to bind!

Patterns

I started to look at pattern books on jumpers to see how they were constructed and to find out more about the different types of jumpers there were to help me categorise them, when I started to look at them i came across these patterns that use geometric shapes and symbols as diagrams for the patterns on the jumpers, I found these really interesting so I started to work with them, here is an example from one of the books and some experiments I have started doing by hand.
