Inpress Packaging for Event

These are the bags that were made for the event to be used to put the prints that people purchased at the event in. They were
sustainably sourced as they wer emade from recycled newspapers, the blue and red colours, in keeping with the branding, were
screenprinted onto the bags and then the Inpress logo was stamped on top of that in white ink.

The packaging was made in a similar way to the bags, they were sustainably sourced using old newspapers and then hand folded and bound so that postcards that had been designed by each member of Inpress could be slotted in and sold as a set. Like the bags the colour was screenprinted over the top and then the Inpress logo stamped over the top in white ink.

Cookbook Illustrations

I coloured my images with watercolour paints and scanned them back into the computer,
I was finding the digital colours to harsh and unnatural and didn't really work with
the illustrations. I much prefer these painted images.
I am not going to start working with them in relation to my cookbook layouts
and start adding type ready for print on Monday.

Tote Bags

For Inpress I also did some fabric screen prints onto tote bags, I did some
illustrations of fruit, therefore this is the 'Fruit Salad' bag, I am going to sell
the bags for £5, that way I should make my money back that I spent
on the printing and bags themselves.

Marmite Prints

For our Inpress event I have been doing some different types
of print, these are my paper A3 screen prints of Marmite illustrations
I had done. I wanted to take the image of Marmite and change it using
colours that would never been associated with Marmite at all.
I am unsure about how much to charge for them at the moment
but I think about £3.

Etching

I wanted to try out some new printing methods and learn some
new processes as part of the Inpress brief, as we are a print based
studio I think its important that I can learn and know as much about
print as I can.
I went down to Vernon street and made an etching plate and Neil
helped me out and showed my how to print using my copper
etching plate.
I will definitely make more etchings now I know how to, I really
enjoyed the process, I would like to take it further and try
aquatint as well.

Design For Print-Workshop 4

-PDF Files

-For commercial print set the PDF to Press Quality

-High Quality won't be quite good enough for commercial print
but good enough to print out for proof fo your client.

-To see whats going on with your PDF you can go to background
tasks

-You can save work as a Postscript file, you can using it when making
positives for screen printing, you can save files as any size, not just what the printer
is set to

-Acrobat Distiller changes Postscript Files to PDFs.

-You can layout multiple postcards on an A2 Page, we need to
save it as a PDF and tell it to include bleed and crop marks

-You can repeat the image ready to print, go to edit---->Step and Repeat
set the height and width to the same as the size of your image and create
as a grid

Week Plan

This  is my plan for the week, I am putting dissertation to one side
until after our deadline now because I only have two weeks until
we have to submit all our practical work.
We have our inpress show this weekend too so we need to focus on that
towards the end of the week.

Our new Inpress stamp arrived! Ready to stamp
all our packaging and prints for our next event!

Inpress Promotion

These are our final printed promotional flyers and posters,
we used images of our work and events on the background
of both and then screen printed the information over them.
Event is next week so need to crack on and get everything done
in the next week!

Inpress Postcard

For our Inpress Event we are all making a postcard which will be sold
as a set, it is part of our promotional material so people can have something
that is designed by each one of us, showing our different styles within the
design studio.
This is the image I am going to use on my postcard, I drew the images over the
summer and haven't had a chance to apply them to anything yet. I am going to
digitally print them.

Printing Inpress Posters

Sadie and I finished the design for the Inpress promotional posters so
we go printing. We digitally printed the background images onto newsprint
and then screen printed the text over the top in the same colours as out business cards
to keep consistency across our branding. We tried doing some florescent green ones
but the smaller type wasn't very legible to we decided to to use the green.
We are doing the same on a smaller scale for the flyers.

Todays To Do List

I have quite a lot to get on with today, I feel like I
am running out of time....

Design For Print- Workshop 3

- You can adjust the size of the text box and the alignment  of it with the X,Y,W,H

-With the paragraphs palate you can adjust and turn on and off the hyphens.

-If you want the hyphen in a different place you can add in a discretionary hyphen.

-You can format characters like paragraph styles, you need to select the type that
you have formated,

-You make character style shortcuts like with paragraph styles

Penguin Cookbook Brief-Chosen Cookbooks

Using already existing sources of top selling and most popular cookbooks
I complied my own list, choosing the most popular chefs then choosing their
most popular books.

These are the chosen books, I did a brainstorm of the content and the
imagery that would be relevant to use in my illustrations for the front
covers.

Timetable

Due to my worry about how little time we have left to complete
all these breifs I made myself a timetable to try and plan out
when I am going to get stuff done and when I will
give myself time for each brief.

Plan For Today

There are a few things I realised I need to go back and look
over and do and blog before I move on with other
work.
I also need to get up to date with PPD so I need
to get on these things now!

This is what I need to get on with to do with my briefs today
after I have done the list of things above.

Design for Print Workshop 2

Consistency and Efficiency

-Text formatting

-Paragraph Formatting

-The show hidden characters option show up where hidden characters like
paragraphs and spaces are. You should work with this on when working with
text.

-Another way of doing this is going to Find/Change,
you can change lots of things in a document all at once.

-You can change the paragraph spacing

-There is also the Paragraph palette

-You can use the space before and space after to change
the spacing between paragraphs, choosing the value of the
line spacing

-Drop Capitals

-Keep Options
If you want to keep a heading with body text etc you can change
the keep options to make sure when you edit text that they stay
together.

-Tabs

-There is a tab ruler that appears where you can change the
size of the tab.

-If you put a character into the leader field it fill the tan with that
character.

-Once you format a paragraph you can save it as a paragraph style.

-You then save your formatting as a shortcut and you
can apply it to any of your document and make changes which
change all of the formatting.
